Pvt. William Albert Worthen survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77.

He returned from World War I aboard the "Vedic" in April 1919 as a mechanic in Co. M, 9th Infantry.

On the "Tuscania," he listed his father, W.H. Worthen, of Sunset, Texas, as his next-of-kin. On his return voyage, he listed his father as William H. Worthen of Sunset, Texas.

His Texas death certificate records his death in the Bowie Memorial Hospital, 503 Hulme Street, Bowie (Montague County), Texas.
