Barbara I. Erickson, age 72, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids.
Barbara Izetta Butterfield was born on July 6, 1932 at Shovel Lake, the daughter of John and Rose (Sharbonda) Butterfield. She was raised and educated in Swatara. She was first married to Melvin Luoma in the late 1950s and they later were divorced. She married Melvin J. Erickson in June of 1965 at Northome. After their marriage they lived for many years in the Margie area. Barbara had worked at various jobs most of her life. In 1985 she moved to Marble to take care of her brother Cecil. She had been a member of the Women's Auxiliary in Big Falls. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, gardening, cooking and her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Floyd, Cecil, Kit and Bud.
Survivors include her children, Steven (Jeannette) Luoma of Grand Rapids, Randy (Lori) Luoma of Windham, Maine, Gale (Harvey) Winger of Traer, Iowa, Molly (Mike) Healy of Nashwauk; grandchildren, Jennifer Coyle, Perry Coyle, Johnny Barg, Steven Luoma, Michelle Mathis, Michael Luoma, Nikki Healy, Arik Healy and Sarah Luoma; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leo of Barnum and Allen of Bovey.
Services: Memorial services will be Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at Lawron Hall in Lawrence Township, north of Grand Rapids.
