Brownfield
James H. "Brownie" Brownfield, 87, died in Klamath Falls, May 5, 1991.
He was born Nov. 24, 1903, in San Francisco to James P. and Helen Brownfield. He moved with his parents and four brothers and sisters in 1907 to Edmondton, Alberta, Canada, where they took over a homestead. At 19 he returned to the United States to retain his American citizenship. He came to the Klamath Basin in 1930.
Mr. Brownfield joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked all over Oregon building roads. He left the CCC and enlisted in the Navy in March 1943 and served until October 1945 with 71st Navy Construction Battalion as a heavy equipment operator, clearing and building air strips in the Pacific Theater.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a bartender at the Klamath Falls Moose Lodge and then with the Klamath Falls Elks Lodge until his retirement in the mid-70s.
He married Lois M. Stone, March 24, 1951, in Eugene.
Mr. Brownfield was a member of the Catholic church, the Klamath Falls Moose Lodge for 46 years, Klamath Falls Elks Lodge No. 1247 for 40 years and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed fly fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife and a son, . . . .
