Mrs. Baker succumbed at the age of 75 years, after a lingering illness.
She was born near Portageville on March 29, 1872, and came to Hayti about 50 years ago. Around 1890 she was united in marriage to William L. Stallings and to this union two children were born. Billie Stalling and Byron Ray Stallings. (Billie died in 1931.) Her husband preceded her in death in 1900. She was later married to William Harper Baker and to this union twin daughters were born, Mrs. Bee Randolph and Mrs. Flossie Randolph. The latter succumbed in 1929. Mrs. Baker also had a grandson, Jimmie Smith, the son of Billie Smith, who was killed in action in the Philippines in 1944.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Randolph of this city, and one son, Byron Ray Stallings of Alamo, Tenn.; three grandchildren, and a host of friends who mourn her passing.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the Pentecostal-Holiness Church of this city. Among those from out-of-town who attended the services were the following: Rev. and Mrs. Ance Lowery and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Randolph, all of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Vernon Cross of Portageville.

NOTE: Josie Baker was married twice. Her 1st husband was M.L. Stallings, married on Nov. 30, 1890. She had a daughter named Billie Stallings Smith (divorced) born in 1901. She also had a son, Byron Ray Stallings. She then married William H. Baker from Tennessee in about 1906. They had twin daughters Flossie and Beatrice Baker, born in 1907.
