Ray Thomas Shannon, son of
Thomas Grant and Alice Mary (Book)
Shannon, was born on May 22, 1901 at
Sterling, II. After moving to the Storm
Lake area, Ray received most of his education
at the Hayes School. He then
moved to Los Angeles, Ca., where he
worked as a freight elevator operator. Ray
then moved back to the Storm Lake area
in 1935, and then to town in 1943 and he
worked at Swansons Grocery Store as a
clerk. Ray retired in the 1960s.
He was a member of the United
Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge
in Storm Lake. His hobbies were gardening,
stamp and coin collecting and sports,
especially baseball and the Chicago Cubs.
Ray died on Sunday, June 21,1998 at
Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake,
obtaining the age of 97 years and 29 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
five brothers and three sisters.
Ray's survivors include 19 nieces
and a host of other relatives and friends.
