Melvin D. (Chubby) Wheeler, 65, of 606 Black Rive Blvd, Rome and employee of Kemp Oil Co. until his retirement in 1972, was pronounced dead Sunday, Nov. 26 at Rome Hospital after being stricken at his home.

Born March 21, 1913 in Verona, he was the son of Arthur and Lillian Duff Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler attended schools in Verona.

On July 29, 1936, he married Evelyn O'Connor in St. Peter's Church. Mr. Wheeler served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Wheeler, who lived in Rome for the past 45 years, had also been employed at the McConnellsville Golf Course and several construction companies.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Chester A. (Carol) Wiley of Floyd, Mrs. Ronald G. (Mary) Hauk of North Western, Mrs. John H. (Judith) Kaiser of Rome, and Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Michels of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Richard M. Wheeler of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and John D. Wheeler of Rome, and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 239 at the Martin J. Nunn funeral Home, Burial will be in Rathbunville Cemetery.
