Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Private in Company E, 3rd Pennsylvania Reserves (32nd Pennsylvania Volunteers) on May 31, 1861. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on August 1, 1861, and to 1st Lieutenant on August 1, 1862. He then served until he was mustered out with his company on June 17, 1864.
