A long-time resident of Oklahoma City, JT Dooley, moved to heaven on August 27th, 2014. He will be remembered in a celebration of life ceremony on Saturday, September 6, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 S.W. 104th, Oklahoma City. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

JT was born on December 12, 1932 in Braymer, MO to the late John P. and Lee Dooley. He was the youngest of five Dooley children and the only son.

JT graduated from Willam Chrisman High School in Independence, MO in 1950. He subsequently enlisted in the Air Force and served honorably from 1952 to 1955 at the height of the Korean War. Upon his return to the Kansas City area, JT was hired on at the the US Weather Service Bureau, where he was on observer and research assistant. In the early 1960s while working for the Weather Bureau’s National Severe Storms Project, JT took a transfer to Oklahoma City to continue the work in severe storm detection and identification. He soon became part of the research team at the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) in Norman where he stayed until his retirement from federal service in 1988.

He met and married Donna Lou Levene in 1957 and raised two children, Kristi Lee and John Thomas. Donna was the love of his life - the two were rarely separated.

World Ministry Fellowship ordained JT as a minister of the gospel in 1982. This passion took him far and wide often traveling week nights and weekends to teach bible studies in homes and churches. He was also invited to share his testimony as part of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship throughout the state of Oklahoma. He was a mighty man of God who loved the Lord and was true to his faith. As a life-long learner, he studied at numerous colleges and universities while working as a research meteorologist. He was a graduate of UCO in Edmond. JT was as an avid writer of sermons, bible studies and travel pieces which were published by major newspapers across the country. He had a dry sense of humor and loved ice cream.

JT is predeceased by his sisters Dorothy (Lozier), Lucy (Ploeger) and Betty (Minnick).

He is survived by his wife Donna of 57 years, currently residing in Oklahoma City; daughter Kristi (Awtry) and her husband Mark of Chicago and their children Erin, Derek and Lauren; son John and his wife Nancy and stepchildren Melanie of Texas, and Shana and husband Todd and their daughter Gabby of California. He is also survived by his oldest sister Helen (Streep) of Overland Park KS and several nieces and nephews in the Kansas City area.

His footprint on this earth has made quite an impact on many lives and he will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in JT’s name to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc., http://www.myastheniagravis.org/.
