Anthony Sisti, City Clerk for 31 Years
Anthony V. Sisti Jr., about 71, of 1004 Sherman Dr., Utica's city clerk for 31 years, longer than any other clerk in the city's history, died yesterday in Faxton Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Sisti became city Clerk Jan, 1, 1924. He retired in 1955.
Before he became city clerk, he was a member of the insurance firm Sisti & Sisti. He was a licensed clerk in the city clerk's office in 1921 and was deputy commissioner of public safety from January 1922 to December 1923.
Mr. Sisti was known in city government circles for his knowledge of State and Municipal laws governing Utica.
When he retired, then Mayor Boyd E. Golder issued a proclamation in which he said Sisti had "accumulated and put into practice knowledge of municipal government that has seldom been equaled."
At a retirement diner for Mr. Sisti, which was attended by nearly l 700, former Mayor Vincent R Corrou said that during Mr. Sisti's 35 years as a public official 'there was no job to inconvenient for him to do." He said that Mr. Sisti had been a "bureau of information" to both this City Hall colleagues and the public.
Following his retirement as City Clerk, Mr. Sisti returned to the real estate business.
Mr. Sisti was born in Utica and was graduated from Utica Free Academy. He married Marguerite Scherer. She died in 1966. He later married Leona Moore Batsford.
He served in the intelligence corps of the First Army Head-quarters in France during World War I. He was a member of St. John's Church, Utica Lodge B. P. O. E. and Fort Schuler Post, American Legion.
Besides his widow, he leaves a sister, Miss Agnes M. Sisti, Utica, and three brothers, Michael A. Sarasota, Fla., and Vincent M. (Jim) and Frank P. both of Utica.
The funeral will be at 8:15 Saturday from the Quinn, Ryan and Nunn Funeral Home and at 9 from St. John's Church. burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barneveld. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday.
