James "Jim" Wesley York (1944-1997), was born on the 5 July 1944 in Gregg Co., Texas, the forth born child of William Oliver York (1906-1973) and Clara Jean Weeks (1910-1988).

On the 4 July 1960, Jim enlisted into the U.S. Navy. During the Vietnam War, he was an Aviation Ordnanceman for Detachment Six of the Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three (Seawolves), serving as a helicopter gunner on three tours of duty in Vietnam. Although the war ended in 1975, Jim remained in the Navy, his service coming to an end on the 30 April 1981. By the time of his honorable discharge, he had risen to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1). Among the many medals he received during his service, Jim was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism and extraordinary achievements during the 1968 Tet Offensive. He was also a recipient of the Silver Star twice, the Air Medal twenty-one times, the Purple Heart three times, and The Presidential Unit Citation and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Citation.

On the 6 August 1976, Jim married Marla Jean Graber (1952-2007) in Westminster, Orange Co., California. After their marriage, Jim and Marla lived in Westminster, where Jim helped raise her four children from a previous marriage.

Jim passed away on the 13 July 1997 in Westminster, eight days after his fifty-third birthday. He was survived by his wife Marla, and step-children: Stephanie, Donna, Angela, and Geoffrey. Jim was buried in Riverside National Cemetery on the 21 July 1997.
