Mrs. Katherine Mahrer, one of the oldest settlers of Dunbar Township, Sargent County, North Dakota, passed away at her home in Forman, ND on July 6, 1959 at the age of 88 years old and 5 mos.

Katherine Mahrer was born in Greenwald, MN on her parents farm on February 9, 1871. She was united in matrimony to Mr. Henry Mahrer January 29, 1889. They came to the area of Forman in the spring of 1889 and settled on a homestead Mr. Mahrer had filed on in 1880. Their possessions at the time were a team of oxen, a lumber wagon and .50 in cash. The Mahrers remained on the homestead until 1925 when they purchased a farm nearby leaving the old homestead to their son George. In 1943, they retired and moved to Forman and resided here until the time of their deaths. Henry Mahrer died in 1947.

A solemn requiem High Mass was sung by Mrs Mahrer's son, Rev. James Mahrer, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Forman.

The children remaining to mourn her death are four sons & two daughters; Rev James Mahrer OSB, Richard Mahrer, George Mahrer, William Mahrer, Mary Nathe, and Margaret Hansen. Besides her own children, she leaves the Venerable Sister Jane Frances of St. Francis Convent, Hankinson, ND, daughter of Mrs. Mahrer's late daughter Frances Rothstein whom she raised from infancy, and 23 other grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; two brothers Joe Kulzer, Forman, and Conrad Kulzer of Greenwald, MN; four sisters, Mary Nefzger, New Munich, MN, Anna Uphus, Melrose, MN, Christine Pfeffer, Bemidji, MN, and Margaret Sauer of Eugene, OR.
