Joe David Barker Sr., 78, Odessa, died Dec. 10, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. Mr. Barker was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Sni Mills Community of Eastern Jackson County and was a lifelong Odessa resident.
He was a farmer and owner/operator of Joe`s Fina Service Station from 1968 to 1979 and Joe`s Skelly Service Station from 1963 to 1967, both in Odessa. He was also a life member of the Odessa VFW Post 5675.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 82nd Division Service Co., 325th Glider Infantry during World War II. He earned three bronze stars for Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaign and Battles, an American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, two Overseas Service Bars and a Victory Ribbon.
His survivors include his wife, Eula Faye Barker of the home; a son, Joe D. Barker Jr., Odessa; two daughters, Joyce Marnor, Cuba, MO, and Janice Seaman, Odessa; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial in Greenton Cemetery, Odessa.
