Dorothy Frances Gerlach Neill, artist, age 83, died March 27, 1999 in Chicago, Illinois. A native of Columbus and member of St. Catharine Parish. She attened Holy Rosary High School in 1932, began her college art education with a scholarship to the Columbus Art School (now the Columbus College of Art and Design), where she studied under Chester Nicodemus and Alice Schille. In 1935 she began her career as fashion illustrator at Dunn-Taft and the Union Company and continued for 30 years with F&R Lazarus Company. In 1980 she retired to painting, participating in numerous art shows in the Columbus area. An active Columbus College of Art and Design alumnus, she received their Outstanding Alumni Award in 1987. Preceded in death by husband Vincent James Neill, by parents Joseph Gerlach and Nellie Bebout Gerlach of Columbus, brothers Raymond and Charles, and sister Virginia. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, James and Eileen Neill of Riverwood, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and David Beckes of Milwaukee, Wis., Beverly and James Sweetman of Perrysburg, Oh.; also 8 grandchildren, Christine, Kim, Jennifer, Kelly, Michael, Vincent, Kia and James. Friends received Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High Street. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Catharine Church, 500 S. Gould Road. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family requests donations to The Columbus College of Art and Design Scholarship Fund or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.
