Stephen B Mahoney May 7, 1933 – August 31, 2014 Heber City, UT- Stephen “Pappa” Mahoney died peacefully with his two sons by his side in his home town of Heber City, Utah, where he resided for the past 14 years and where he was also born 81 years ago.

He is the son of Clarence Ray Mahoney and Ann Bond (both deceased).

Stephen married Lea Inkeri Antsola on September 27, 1957 in the Salt Lake City, UT temple. Lea passed away in February 2012.

He is survived by son Stephen Ray Mahoney of Highland, UT, son David Johan Mahoney (Valerie) of Heber, UT, daughter Tiina-Liisa Watts (Ed) of Provo, UT, daughter Helena Ann Hathaway (Scott) of Acton, CA, daughter Carina LaVon Mahoney of Draper, UT, brother Clarence B Mahoney of Midway, UT, and sister Annette McMurdie of North Logan, UT. He has 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Stephen graduated from Heber’s Wasatch High School in 1951, served an LDS mission in Finland in 1953-56, graduated from BYU in 1958, was ordained by Thomas S. Monson in 1970 as the bishop of the Rowland Heights, CA ward, was branch president at the MTC, served as the Finland Mission President from 1975-1978, as well as many other wonderful callings in the church. He loved to read the scriptures and books about prophets and church history.

He worked with Merrill Lynch and various other financial institutions, BYU where he focused on raising funds for the BYU Jerusalem Center, and was currently employed as the Director of the Wasatch County Senior Citizens Center, which he enjoyed. Stephen loved people and was very outgoing, friendly, caring, and had a powerful testimony. He especially loved the Finnish people and was greatly loved by them. He had a huge impact on the lives of many of the Finnish Latter-day Saints and the first Finnish Stake was organized while he was the Mission President.

He will be greatly missed, but we also know he is having a wonderful reunion in heaven.

Funeral services will be held Friday Sept. 5th at 10:00am in the Heber East Stake building at 2395 S. Mill Road (1200 East) in Heber City, UT. Friends may call on Thursday Sept. 4th for the viewing from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and on Friday from 8:45-9:45am prior to the services, both at the LDS Church.
