Harlan J. Hardman was born to parents James C. and Elizabeth (Ramsay) Hardman on April 26, 1909 in Albany, Oregon. He was the youngest of five children. Harley was the grandson of Pioneers who came by wagon from Indiana and was raised on a portion of his grandparents land. He grew up with farming as a way of life. After his father passed in 1924, Harley and his mother sold the farm and moved to Portland, Oregon. Within a few years, he became a machinist in a bearing factory. In 1932 Harley married his life partner, Millicent L. Hooper. They had their only child, a daughter, in 1937. Harley enjoyed restoring old cars and attending the reunion picnics for the Powell branch of his family. Harley passed away at the age of 99 years.
