By 1840, he was living Jackson County. His first wife was Catherine Ann Street. She was from England and they had 3 sons, Daniel S.(-1903), John W.(1834-1899), and Jabez G.(1837-). Samuel married his second wife, Cynthia McGlothlin(1814-) on June 14, 1849 in Jackson County. They had 3 children, Mary S.(1850-), Samuel T.(1852-1858) and Cynthia A.(1859-) Samuel was a farmer and also a minister. During the Civil War, he and Cynthia moved into Ravenswood. In 1869, they donated a lot for the Methodist Episcopal Church to be built upon. The church was dedicated in 1870.
