DROWNED AT PEORIA
The Young America notes in the Atlas of Jan. 1, 1869 told that the remains of a daughter of John Salter, formerly of Salter's Grove, near that place, had been brought there from Peoria for interment. It said that the girl, with an older sister, had been skating on the lake, and not being ready to go home when her sister left, she stayed behind. As she did not return that night, it was supposed she had gone to the home of a relative near by, and consequently no uneasiness was felt. Upon making inquiries the next morning it was found that she had not been at the home of the friends at all, and when a search was made, her veil was found near a hole in the ice. Later her body was recovered. She was about twelve years old.
