Son of John and Elizabeth (Thayer/Thane) Stone. Filed intent to marry Betsy Branch 10/30/1802 in Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Their first child, Sarepta, was born about 1803 in Massachusetts. By 1806 they were living in New York where at least 7 other children were born. Between 1830 and 1840 they have moved to Medina County, Ohio.

Father of of Sarepta Hubbard (1803-1895), Amelia (1806-1851), Artemisia (1806-1852), William Brent (1807-1900), Orson (1809-1892), Levi H. (1811-1850), Emily Lucinda Welton (1818-1881) and Lucy E. Firman (1822-1903).

Participated in the War of 1812.

William was descended from Deacon Gregory Stone as follows: David Stone (1622-1703); Daniel Stone (1651-1730); David (1682-1733); Samuel (1714-1776); John (1754-1840).
