Clarence Leroy "Roy" Arney of Creswell, Oregon, was visiting his son's family in North Bend, Oregon on January 20, 1956. His daughter-in-law's younger brother, Forrest D. Gohn, had been honorably discharged from the U.S Army ten days earlier. Gohn took Roy Arney for an evening ride in the car he'd just purchased. In the winter darkness, Gohn apparently did not realize that he was driving off of a pier at the end of a street. He drove directly into the bay. Both he and Roy Arney were drowned.
