Susan was the daughter of George White and Hannah McPherson, who were wed May 15, 1811. Her mother later remarried James M. Carroll January 8, 1819. Hannah took in three orphans, Sarah Small and her two brothers, before 1830, as they are reflected on the 1830 Federal Census along with Susan. Sarah Small would later marry Elijah McPherson, the brother of Hannah. Apparently Susan went to Carroll County, Georgia to help Sarah with her children. There she then married Hodge Raburn on November 3, 1834. In the 1840 Census, Hodge Raburn and Susan are next to her grandfather in Roane County, Tennessee. They moved to Shelby County, Texas before 1846. Hodge and Susan had five children: Mary C.; William B.; Howell A.; Milton V.; and Robert L. Raburn. Hodge died about 1852. Susan then married Josiah Covington September 5, 1855 in Johnson Coonty, Texas. They had one child, Sallie Covington. Josiah had never divorced his first wife, Unity Fondren. Josiah, Susan, and their child moved to the Indian reservation in Oklahoma before 1860. Susan left her children with her oldest daughter Mary and her husband, James Haley, as reflected on the 1860 Census, aged ten to 21 years. Susan, Josiah and Sallie Covington moved to Hood County, Texas before 1879.
