Earl Preston Anderson “Andy” was born May 10, 1912 in Laquey, Missouri the son of Ora M and Laura (Walters) Anderson and departed this life August 29, 2014 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas.

Visitation will be Friday September 5, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Saturday September 6, 2014 at Williamsburg High School Gymnasium, Williamsburg, KS.

He was united in Marriage to Edna Mae McMillin on February 9, 1940 in Ottawa, KS and to this union 5 children were born. Edna Mae passed away on June 10, 1999. Andy married Florine Schoonover in Williamsburg, KS on October 12, 2000. The couple enjoyed 14 years together gardening and their involvement in many social activities in the Williamsburg community. Andy was still living in his own home and was able to mow his lawn during the last week of his life.

Survivors include three sons; Larry Anderson and wife Loretta of Wellington, KS, Leland Anderson and wife Jackie of Neodesha, KS, and Lowell Anderson and wife Teresa of Williamsburg, KS; two daughters: Loretta Teagarden and husband George of LaCygne, KS, and Loraine Wilson and husband Mark of Kansas City, MO; one sister Marjorie Bandy of Springfield, MO; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Andy was 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Lions Club, Worthy Patron of the Sadana Chapter of the Eastern Star and active in the United Methodist Church since moving to Williamsburg in 1938.

Andy was a graduate of the Agricultural College of Manhattan (Kansas State University) where he received a Bachelor’s in Animal Husbandry in 1936. Jobs were almost non-existent at the time, so Andy took the advice of the Extension Service and pursued a degree in a brand new field called Vocational Agriculture. He taught 1 year in Alton KS before taking on a teaching position in Williamsburg, KS in 1938. After a briefly teaching in Wellsville, KS Andy returned to Williamsburg where he remained until his retirement in 1983 at the age of 72. He was proud of the success of his Vo-Ag program, but credited supportive parents and students who worked hard and wanted to learn. One of his greatest loves was his association with the Future Farmers of America (F.F.A.). During his career, students earned American Farmer Degrees, State Farmer Degrees and Andy received the FFA’s Honorary American Farmer Degree.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters Mildred Rollins, Neva Ramsey, Norma Lea Mihalevich and Beulah Walker; one brother Roger Anderson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Williamsburg United Methodist Church, c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, Kansas 66067
