Samuel John Newhouse, aged 67, operator of the Newhouse Feed Store in Elizabeth, died suddenly at about 11 p.m. Friday night, April 22nd.
He was born in Wirt County on July 16, 1887, a son of the late John and Lucy Ann Newhouse.
Mr. Newhouse, a farmer in his earlier years, served for nine years with the U.S. Army Infantry, and was a member of Wirt Post No. 55, The American Legion. He was a member of and Deacon of the Central Hill Baptist Church. He was formerly in partnership with Melvin Wilson in the operation of the Wilson-Newhouse Feed Store here for several years, and after Mr. Wilson's retirement a few years ago, he continued the operation of the business known as the Newhouse Feed Store.
Survivors include his wife, Miss Ethel V. Newhouse; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Ann Thompson, of Parkersburg, Mrs. Virginia Taylor of Fort Knox, Ky., and Miss Irene Newhouse, at home; one brother, George Newhouse, of Long Bottom, O.; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Richmond, of Parkersburg and Mrs. Ora Pyles, of Dailey, W.Va., and three grandchildren, David Thompson, Rebecca Kay and John Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from the Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Rev. K.T. Board of Palestine and the Rev. Vairl C. Winter, City, officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Parkersburg. The McCray Funeral Home, City was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Gilbert Cheuvront, J. Cecil Thorne, E.N. Davis, Herbert Roberts, Basil Fint and Howard Caltrider
