Josiah was the son of Robert Brewer and Sarah L. Franklin. He married Sarah H. Beckett on 14 Feb. 1893 in Woodbury, Gloucester Co., NJ.

Josiah was from Chews Landing, Gloucester Twp., Camden Co., and was a vestryman in the Episcopal Church there. He was killed in a train accident.
