Note 1:
Woodie's year of birth I [originally] listed here, 1891, is two years later than the birth year on his head stone, 1889. The birth year written on his draft registration card and on his social security application both say May 1891. Both were signed in Woodie's own hand, so that's what I [originally went] with. (Also, his parents weren't married until August 23, 1890.)
Note 2:
Woodie's paternity has never been in question. Thomas is listed as Woodie's father on all sources. Woodie's birth year is listed as 1891 or 1892 on census records, draft reg. card, and S. S. application. But after Woodie's death, his social security record was processed and adjusted by family to say he was born in 1889, and his headstone also says he was born in 1889. A bit of a family scandal? Could be. Etta's first husband, my g-g-grandfather, vanished sometime around 1888. I'm still looking.
