LOCAL GROCER ALKEK DIES
Anton J. Alkek Sr., well-known Victoria grocer, died unexpectedly at 6:30 p.m. Monday at a local hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 58.
Mr. Alkek, who resided at 705 S. Main, was owner of the Anton Alkek Grocery and Market. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he was born Dec. 15, 1906, in Eagle Lake. He was a member of the Texas Retail Grocers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, TPA and the Elks Club.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sophie Alkek of Victoria; two daughters, Jalayne and Suzanne Alkek of Victoria; two sons, Anton J. Alkek Jr. of Corpus Christi and Edward Gene Alkek of Victoria; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Cattan and Mrs. Kathryn Taweel of Victoria; two brothers, A. B. Alkek and Victor Alkek of Victoria, and a granddaughter, Lisa Alkek of Corpus Christi. His parents were the late Jacob and Mary Hyak Alkek.

SERVICES SET TODAY FOR ANTON ALKEK
Funeral services for Anton J. Alkek Sr., 58, 705 S. Main, who died unexpectedly Monday of a heart attack in a local hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Paul Kratzig officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery under direction of McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services.
The family has requested that in place of the usual remembrances be made to the Heart Fund.
Pallbearers will be Howard G. Hall, Duncan Sutherland Jr., Matry Hyak, Pete Stolis, George Dick, Morris Hyak, Ernest Dick Sr., and Joe Miranda.
Members of the flower committee will be Mrs. Morris Hyak, Mrs. Pete Solis, and Mrs. David Alkek.
