Isadora N. Kizer, the daughter of
James Kizer Sr. and his wife
Mary Catherine Ammerman, on
Nov. 8, 1874 in the M. E.
(Methodist Episcopol) parsonage
in Buchanan, Berrien Co. Michigan,
by Rev. A. J. Russell.
(Both Theo and his wife were living
in Olive Twp. St. Joseph Co. Indiana
at the time of their marriage).
Note: Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan,
is located just across the state line
from Olive township, St. Joseph Co. IN.

Theodore and Isadora first lived
near Hamilton, in Penn Township,
St. Joseph County Indiana
(where their eldest son Clarence
was born in 1877), and at the time
of the 1800 census.

Their children
Clara, Edna, and Edgar, were all
born in Mishawaka, Indiana.

They also lived near New Carlisle,
St. Joseph County Indiana (where their
youngest son Clifford was born in 1892).

The 1900 census shows Theodore A. Upham
and his wife "Dora" living with their
children in the Village of Berrien Springs,
Oronoko township, Berrien County Michigan.

They later lived North of Buchanan,
near Baroda,
Berrien Co. Michigan, and then later,
on Oak St. in Buchanan, Michigan
(where Theodore died in 1903).

Theodore was a farmer.

There is a record of a law suit
that Theodore had filed in Berrien
County MI, which is located in the
"Western Michigan University Archives
and Regional History Collections",
in the East Hall # 111, on the East
Campus, at 1903 West Michigan Avenue,
in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

They had six children, four boys and
two girls (one son dying in infancy).
(The children are listed under his
wife Isadora Upham).

Theodore's eldest brother Freeman Upham
served in the Civil War for four years
to the day, in Company E, 6th Michigan
Heavy Artillery. He became a Corporal.

Sons Clarence and Clifford Upham
are buried in the

Berrien Springs, Michigan.

grandson named Theadore "E." Upham
(1922-2009), (the son of Clifford),
who lived in Jackson, Michigan.

Theodore died of cancer, at the age
of 47 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

Theodore's obituary was published in
the "Buchanan Record" newspaper, in
Buchanan, Michigan, on March 3, 1903,
page 3. (The Niles library obituary
index, had him listed incorrectly
as "A. T. Upham"). It reads as follows:

OBITUARY
Theodore A. Upham
was born in Eaton county, Michigan
March 7, 1855, and died at his home
in Buchanan, [MI] March 1, 1903, aged
47 years, 11 months and 27 days.
He was married on Nov. 8, 1874 to
Miss Isadore [Isadora] Kizer, since
which time a greater share of his
life has been spent in and about
this vicinity.
Six children, four boys and two girls
were born unto them, one [son] dying
in infancy. The remaining five were
present at the time of their father's
death.
For the past year, the deceased was
a great sufferer of cancer of the
stomach and has been confined to his
bed much of the time since January.
There is left to mourn his loss, a
devoted wife [Isadora], five loving
children and four brothers aside
other relatives and friends.
A short service was conducted at the
home on Oak street, Rev. Douglass
officiating, after which the remains
were taken to Mount Tabor Hall where
the funeral services proper were
conducted by Rev. Newland of
Berrien Springs, [MI] at 2 o'clock
Tuesday, March 2, '03.

The "Mt. Tabor Grange" celebrated it's
50th anniversary in 1923 (per article
published in the "Berrien Springs Era"
newspaper, in Berrien Springs, Michigan
on Thursday, Nov. 8, 1923).
Many funerals were held in the
Mount Tabor Grange Hall.

at his home on Oak Street, in Buchanan,
Michigan, of infirmity, disease
[cancer] of the liver, stomach, and
bowels, at the age of
