Loyalton - Funeral services for Harold L. Anderson, 77, will be Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Richland Wesleyan Church, rural Mina, with the Rev. Ron Wickard leading the worship. Interment will be in the Ipswich City Cemetery. Visitation at Gramm-Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich.

Harold LeRoy Anderson, the first of three sons to Archie and Myrtle (Melstrom) Anderson, was born July 31, 1927 in Red Wing, Minn. He was raised on a farm near Hager City, Wis. where he attended a rural grade school and then graduated from Ellsworth Public High School in Ellsworth, Wis.

Harold came to South Dakota as a harvester with Floyd Hilden and Marlin Olsen during the summer of 1948. He soon met his future bride, Bonnie, while working for Phil and Zeldia Bukaske. Their relationship caused him to make numerous trips between South Dakota and Wisconsin over the next two years. Harold and Bonnie were married in the Loyalton Wesleyan Methodist Church on October 21, 1950. Harold began farming near Loyalton in March 1950, and they continued to farm and ranch together until the mid-1990s.

Although Harold's active involvement in the farm decreased in recent years, he never lost his love for agriculture. The past 15 years he was a part-time agricultural statistician and the last eight years he was also a crop adjuster. His work led him across the state where he met many people. He also sold Golden Sun feeds for many years. Harold thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people, traveling and talking about agriculture.

Harold accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in June 1950 and was a faithful member of the Wesleyan Church. He taught Sunday school for many years and served in various capacities on the church boards at Loyalton, Ipswich and Richland Wesleyan. His family is thankful for his love, faith, commitment, and strong values; they are proud of the spiritual heritage Harold has left them.

Harold served many years on the Vermont Township Board (presently as Treasurer), as well as a member of the ASCS County Committee, the Sunshine Bible Academy Board and the Ipswich Hospital Board of Directors.

Harold enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music and watching TV; but his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed, and his memory will be cherished by his family.

Thankful for having shared in his life are his wife, Bonnie, of Loyalton; two sons, Gary (Millie) Anderson of Paola, Kan. and Rodney (Coretta) Anderson of Loyalton; one daughter, Gail (Raymond) Winter of Borger, Texas; one son-in-law, Tom Uphoff of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Ron (Laura) Anderson of Red Wing, Minn. and Wayne (Rochelle) Anderson of Hager City, Wis.; his mother-in-law, Zeldia Bukaske of Loyalton; four granddaughters, Samarah Winter, Lindsay Uphoff Woods, Heather Anderson, and Julie Uphoff; six grandsons, Jason (Mikayla) Uphoff, Andy Anderson, Jeremiah (Dawn) Anderson, Kyle (Laura) Anderson, Adair Winter and Taggart Winter; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Maner Uphoff, Kirsten Anderson, Holly Anderson, and Ethan Woods.

Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra, his parents, and many relatives and friends.

His grandsons will serve as casket bearers and his granddaughters and great-grandchildren will be honorary casket-bearers.
