Jean M. Chapman, 88, died peacefully in her sleep early August 23, 2014.

Jean was born Imogene Mayo to parents, Anthony Mayo and Rose Padilla, in Fruita, Colorado. They later moved to Highland Boy, a small mining town near Copperton, Utah, where she grew up and graduated from Bingham High School.

Jean married LaVelle Johnson, with whom she had three children: David LaVelle Johnson, Wayne Wilford Johnson, and Sharron Rose Johnson Potila. They later divorced and she married Leo Van Gray, with whom she had two children: Leon Van Gray and LeAnn Vanessa Jean Gray (Hunt). Jean also gained two step-children, David Gray and Harriet Gray Cover. They later divorced.

Jean married the love of her life, Theodore "Ted" Chapman. With this marriage, she gained three step-children: Kitty Chapman Kropf, Donald Chapman, and Ronald Chapman.

Jean and Ted had many happy years together hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, and traveling.

In her younger days, Jean was in the Civil Air Patrol, was a bookkeeper for Ted's Auto Repair and was a Notary Public.

Jean was very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years, holding various positions. She was also a member or REAC and Assist.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; sons, David Johnson and Leon Gray; and siblings, Jimmy Mayo, Jr., Francis Mayo, and Madeline Mayo. Survived by children, Wayne (Pat) Johnson, Sharron (Ronald) Potila, and LeAnn (Robert) Hunt; step-children, David Gray, Harriet (Neil) Cover, Kitty (Myron) Kropf, Donald Chapman, and Ronald Chapman; siblings, Eugene (Nila) Abreu, Vern (Utahna) Abreu, Keith (Darla) Abreu, Isabelle Abreu, and Joyce Fordham; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, August 29, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Valley View.
Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
