Matilda Straubinger Bonnel, 92, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. She was born on December 7, 1921 in El Dorado, KS. She was the daughter of the late John Adam Straubinger and Emma Marie Rosemann Straubinger.

Matilda graduated from El Dorado High School, Butler County Community College and Kansas State University, where she majored in Dietetics and Institutional Management. She completed an internship in dietetics at Milwaukee County Institutions. After graduation, she worked as a dietitian at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. After she was married, she taught nutrition in the LPN program and later worked as a dietitian at the Kansas Neurological Institute, both in Topeka, before retiring in 1988.

Matilda was an active member of Seabrook United Church of Christ having served as a diaconate, as a trustee on the Board of Christian Education, the Women’s Fellowship, and quilting circle. She was a member of the Topeka Home Economics group, American Dietetic Association, Kansas Dietetics Association, and the Kaw Valley Dietetics Association.

Matilda married Delbert Wilson Bonnel on November 28, 1946 in El Dorado, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2001. She is also preceded by her parents and grandson, Jacob Richardson.

Matilda is survived by her 3 children, Peter (Wanda), Anita (Jim), and Thomas (Linda). Other survivors include 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 30th at the Brewster Place Chapel, 1205 SW 29th Street in Topeka. The family will greet visitors from 10-10:30 prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins, Topeka, KS 66604.
