David H. Andrews, 64, of Loveland, one of the organizers of the National Bureau of Standards' radio station WWV north of Fort Collins, died Thursday at McKee Medical Center in Loveland after a short illness.
The Fort Collins facility, opened in December 1966, broadcasts standard radio and audio frequencies, time intervals, Greenwich Mean Time, Universal Time, forecasts of radio propagation conditions and geophysical alerts.
Andrews was born Jan. 7, 1913, at Buffalo, N.Y., attended Stony Brook School on Long Island, N.Y., and the University of Maryland and earned engineering degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and the University of Colorado.
He was in the Navy during World War II and married Edith Tate Feb. 22, 1946, in Baltimore, Md.
He was a retired employe of the National Bureau of Standards, a registered professional engineer in Colorado and president of the Colorado chapter of the International Conference of Building Officers.
He was chief building inspector for the City of Loveland since 1968. He was an elder in the Fort Collins Bible Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, of Loveland, a son, two daughters and four grandchildren.
