Sylvester S. Johnson, 94, of Shelbyville passed away at 2:15 a.m. Sunday (August 24, 2014) at the Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Findlay. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville Manor.
Sylvester was born on November 30, 1919 near Leslie, AR the son of Mattie Q. Grayson and Balis H. Johnson and was the step-son of Lula Rolen Johnson, all of Searcy Co., AR.
He married Lillian I. Reade on September 29, 1941 in Marshall, AR and she preceded him in death November 20, 2001.
The family moved to rural Findlay in 1953 where he farmed until retirement to Clarksburg. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his sons, Sidney (Aradasa) Johnson of Mountain Home, AR, Robert (Pamela Sue) Johnson of Fairview Heights, IL, Larry (Annette) Johnson of Teasdale, UT and Keith (Jill) Johnson of Effingham, IL; daughter, Patricia (Ralph) Stevenson of Riverton, IL; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-mother and sister, Sovillia Johnson Brown.
