KEARNEY — Ernest Donald Dallman, 88, of Kearney, formerly of Upland, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services were today at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden with the Revs. Ivan Schoone and Gary Main officiating. Burial was at Upland Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1926, on the family farm near Upland to Harmon E. and Frances (Minnick) Dallman.

On June 9, 1949, he married Donna Belle Hendricks.

Survivors include his wife; son, Reg Dallman and her wife, Lonna, of Kearney; daughter, Rochelle Wright and her husband, Rick of Westcliffe, Colo.; stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Artz and his wife, Stephanie, Kristina Artz, Becky Young and Jennifer Knolton; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Wesley, Corbin and Tyler Artz; brother, Randy Dallman and his wife, Elvera, of Franklin; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was baptized at the Macon Methodist Church. He grew up near Upland and attended Rural District 25 in Franklin County and graduated from Hildreth High School in 1944.

He and Donna Belle began their life together on a farm near Macon. In 1955, they moved to Upland where he worked as a gas truck driver for Farmers Union Co-op delivering fuel to farms and carrying many 5-gallon cans of fuel to patrons using oil burners.

He became manager of the co-op in 1968 and was very proud to have the new building built in the present location. He retired in 1986, and they moved to Grandview Estates in Kearney in 2006.

He and Donna Belle were blessed to have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 9 of this year.

Since the age of 12, Ernie has endured the effects of osteomyelitis. He never shirked his duties on any job he set forth to accomplish. He enjoyed his friends and neighbors and card buddies and especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ernie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
