Oceanport Man Killed in Action

Mrs. John E. Albring, Eatontown blvd, Oceanport, received word last week that her husband, Tech Sgt. John Edgar Albring of the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action in Korea, Nov. 3, one day after his 27th birthday.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. George Albring of Eatontown blvd, Sgt. Albring was graduated form the Oceanport grammar school and Red Bank high school. He was a former member of the Fort Monmouth boy scout troop and of the Red Bank Sea Scouts. He was also a member of the Oceanport hook and ladder company and of the Pottsville, Pa., American Legion Post.

Sgt. Albring had been a member of the Marine corps since 1940 when he enlisted. After receiving his basic training at Parris Island, S. C., he was sent to South America where he served for three years with the Military police at Natal, Brazil.

He served with the Marines during World War II at Saipan, Guam, Okinawa and Kyushu, Japan. He returned to the United States after the war and did recruit duty at Kingston and Syracuse, N. Y.

In the Korean War, Sgt. Albring served at the battle of Seoul and in the invasion of Pusan. Mrs. Albring received a letter Nov. 10 from her husband, in which he said he believed the hard fighting was done and "there was nothing to worry about." The letter was written Oct. 29.

In 1948 Sgt. Albring married the former Miss Marian McBreen, Port Carbon, Pa.

Surviving besides his parents and his wife, are a son, John Jr., 18 months old, and two sisters, Mrs. William Glassford, Maple Ave., Wanamassa and Miss Dorothy Albring, Oceanport. Sgt. Albring was a grandson of William L. Kirby, Long Branch.
