Aged 83 years

"Stricken with a stroke of paralysis the night before, Mansfield H. Hummer, who would have been 84 years old next summer, died Monday at his home in Annandale. He was born at Sunnyside but spent the greater part of his life at Annandale where for more than 50 years he had been a member of Annandale Reformed Church. A wheelwright and painter by trade, he was a member of a firm that built wagons and buggies and had a blacksmith shop from 1878 until 1928, when the advent of the automobile forced it to cease business. Always bearing his name, the concern first was called Hummer Brothers and later became Hummer & Smith. The firm sold wagons over a large area.

Mr. Hummer was twice married. Besides his second wife, he leaves three brothers, William Hummer, of Somerville, and Charles and Lewis Hummer, of Plainfield. He was also a member of Hunterdon Lodge No. 154, Knights of Pythias, of High Bridge.

The funeral will be held at the house at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. Rev Chester A. Moore, pastor of the Annandale Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Grandin, near Clinton."

Hunterdon County Democrat, February 8, 1934.

US Presbyterian Church Records: Mansfield H. Hummer married Mary Alice Hackett at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, NJ on 3 Dec 1904.
