Mary Lorene Burton

Lorene Burton, 93, of Amarillo, formerly of Canadian died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Burton, officiating and Doug and Larry Mote, assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.

Lorene was born Sept. 16, 1920, to Bingham Massey and Laura Taylor Massey. She was a 1937 graduate of San Jon High School in San Jon. She married Norman Burton on May 16, 1940, in San Jon, N.M. He preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2010. They moved to Claude before they settled in Hemphill County near Canadian. Lorene worked as the Hemphill County treasurer for more than 20 years. They moved to Amarillo in 2006 from Canadian. While living in Canadian, she was a member of First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her four sons, Dorland Burton and wife Ann, and Shelby Burton and wife Sue, all of Stratford, Oran Burton and wife Ann of Stinnett and Duval Burton and wife Shirley of Spearman; two brothers, Jim Massey and wife Edith and Frank Massey and wife Evelyn, all of Tucumcari, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
