Born June 4, 1927, in Blackville, SC, Sybil was the daughter of the late John and Judith Ray Hartzog. She graduated from Blackville High School; then married Herman Booth June 13, 1944. After raising her two daughters, she achieved her dream of becoming a nurse. Sybil entered nursing school at the age of 50, graduated from Lexington Vocational School and worked for Palmetto Baptist Hospital for ten years. After retiring from Baptist she went to work for Dr. Lawrence Weiner, and then worked for Mt. Hebron Day School. Sybil was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in West Columbia.
