Ambrose Francis Bowlen came with his parents to Alberta, where they were living in the Macleod district by 1911. He died at the age of 20, as the result of injuries received when he tried to board a moving train, after missing the train at the station. He was heading to the home of his parents, at Bottrel, when the accident occurred. He passed away in the arms of his sister, Mae, at the Holy Cross hospital. Mae was working in Calgary for the Alberta Government Telephones. See The Calgary Daily Herald, May 4, 1923, page 16 for a write-up and photo of Ambrose. Excerpt:
The Bowlen's are a well known family of old residents, both in Calgary and in the district west of this city. Ambrose was especially well known in Calgary. He had worked in the Merchants Bank, both in this city and at Oyen, and formerly attended St. Mary's school in this city. At St. Mary's, Ambrose was familiarly known as "Happy," owing to his especially sunny disposition and cheerful ways. Of late, he had been employed on survey work for the C.P.R. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bowlen of Bottrel, he leaves two brothers, Daniel and Edward Bowlen; a sister, Miss Mae Bowlen, of Calgary; and three uncles, P. D. Bowlen, J. J. Bowlen, and Rev. Father Bowlen, all of Calgary.
