Sylvia Bazemore Blakey died December 31, 2011 at Candler Hospital in Savannah.
She was born in Screven County and was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church for over 70 years, where she served as Church Hostess for 30 years, Memorial Chairman, and teacher of Young Adults Sunday School Class. She also held membership in the Azalea Garden Club, being a charter member, the Screven County Homemakers Council, serving as treasure for over 35 years, the Friendship-McBride Homemakers Club, the Screven County Chamber of Commerce, the Screven County Farm Bureau, the “Friends of the Library”, and the “Joy Singers.” She was a private bookkeeper serving several small businesses for over 50 years.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Rufus and Dicy Flythe Bazemore, her husband of 54 years, Jesse Rollin Blakey, Sr., and her brothers, Moreland O. Bazemore, Vernon B. Bazemore, and Thomas R. Bazemore, Jr.
Mrs. Blakey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. Rollin, Jr. and Diane Blakey, of Oxford, AL; grandson, Jesse R. III & Crystal Blakey, of Oxford, AL; sister, Nell B. Bazemore, of Sylvania; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Bazemore and Betty Bazemore, both of Savannah, Martha J. Bazemore, of Portal; great granddaughter, Taelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside burial will be held at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Earnie Pirkle officiating.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00am at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. David Buie, Rev. Earnie Pirkle, and Rev. Jon McLain officiating.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after the Memorial Service at the church.
