Carl Edwin Johnson, 89, of Provo, Passed away suddenly on February 24, 2003.

He was born February 6, 1914, in Park City, Utah, to Carl M. and Ida-Marie Turnquist Johnson. He attended public schools in Park City and Salt Lake City. He graduated from Park City High School in 1932.

Carl married Velda Haslam on August 8, 1936. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A son Carl Mauritz Johnson was born to them on February 22, 1939.

Carl worked for Park City Consolidated mines until called to active duty with the army on January 26, 1942. He service in the South West Pacific Theater of operations spending 22 months in Australia an 20 months in New Guinea. He later retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of Major.

After returning home from the service the family moved to Berkeley, California where he attended the University of California. While in Berkeley he received a B.A. degree in Accounting and Masters of Business Administration degree from Armstrong College.

After he retired Carl and Velda returned to Utah. They worked as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for three years. They also served a mission in the Florida Tampa Mission.

Carl has moved to the other side of the veil and is now having a glorious reunion with his parents, sisters and friends. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. However, we know that his separation is only for a brief period of time.

Funeral services under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem will be held Friday, February 28th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Grandview South Stake Center, 1122 North Grand Avenue, Provo. Friends may call from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Burial will be in the American Fork City Cemetery with full military rites.
