Lewis was born to Lewis A. and Mary Ellen (Pickle) Moore (both now deceased) and graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ in 1949. He was a lifelong resident of Pottersville, NJ. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. He owned his own company, Lewis W. Moore Painting for 51 years and retired in 2000. Lewis was a Life Member of the Pottersville Volunteer Fire Company, having served as President of the fire company. He was also a member of the Pottersville Reformed Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Croasdale) Moore, of Pottersville, NJ, his children Lewis W. Moore, Jr., Sharon L. and her husband Lester Murphy, of Great Meadows, NJ and Jacqueline K. and her husband Ernst Wachsmuth, of Chester, NJ, his grandchildren Amanda, Tiffany, Buddy, Lewis and Max and his great grandchildren Olive and Kendal.
