Foard County native Bill Cates, 68, died Monday morning, July 23, in a Dallas hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday in the Thalia Baptist Church where Cates served as a longtime deacon. Rev. Glenn Wilson will officiate with burial in the Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Womack Manard Funeral Home. Mr. Cates was born Oct. 22, 1915 in Thalia, Texas to Mr. & Mrs. E.M. Cates. He married Faye Johnson on Aug. 31, 1941 in Arizona. He was a farmer and rancher in the Thalia area his entire life. He was a member of the Thalia Baptist Church, Thalia Masonic Lodge and Maskat Shrine Temple in Wichita Falls. Mr. Cates was the driving force in securing a rural water supply system for the Thalia Community. He is survived by his wife of the home; daughters Patricia Aurbach of Dallas and Marilyn Fryman of Denton; 2 sisters Marie Callaway and Vera Fox of Crowell and 4 grandchildren.
