Elmer was the first of twelve children born to William Francis Brisco and Elizabeth Caroline Patton. He was born on November 9, 1881 in Jacksboro, Jack County, TX.

1900 Census
In 1900, Elmer (age 18) lived in Jack County, TX with his parents, William (age 49) and Lizzie (age 35).

Several clues as to Elmer's exact residence in Jack County were found in newspaper archives, describing his residence as the Hicks community, West Fork country, and Sycamore.

In 1902, Elmer Brisco, of the Hicks community, was in Jacksboro. According to the historical marker for Hicks Cemetery, the Hicks/Hix community was established in the 1880s. Between 1885 and 1941, the Cooper School served the area--could this be the school that Elmer attended? The cemetery, which is all that remains of the Hicks community, is located about 7 miles north of Jacksboro in Jack County, TX.

In 1904, Elmer Brisco, of West Fork country, was in Jacksboro selling fine watermelons. A map of Jack County shows the location of the West Fork of the Trinity River north of Jacksboro, consistent with the location of Hicks.

In 1905, WF and Elmer Brisco, of Sycamore, were in Jacksboro.

Marriage
On January 2, 1907, Elmer (age 25) married Mentie Pierce (age 18) at Margaret, Foard County, TX. Elmer's uncle Granville Brisco was married to Mentie's aunt Mary Elizabeth Pierce. Elmer's brother Daniel Pinkney Brisco married Mentie's sister Evie Pierce.

1910 Census
In 1910, Elmer (age 28) lived in Foard County, TX with his wife "Mintie" (age 21), his children, Riley F. (age 2), and Nellie (age 0) in the home of Mentie's father, Riley Dee Pierce. Elmer worked as a grubber.

WW1 Draft
On September 12, 1918, Elmer registered for the WW1 draft. At that time, Elmer worked as a foreman for the KCM&O (Kansas City, Mexico, and Orient) Railway in Margaret, Foard County, TX. He was described as medium height and build with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

1920 Census
In 1920, Elmer (age 38) lived in Crowell, Foard County, TX with his wife Mentie (age 31) and children: Riley (age 12), "Millie" (age 9), Mary (age 7), Addie (age 5), Oliver (age 3), and Edward (age 0). Elmer worked as a laborer at that time.

1930 Census
In 1930, Elmer (age 48) lived in Crowell, Foard County, TX with his wife Mentie (age 41) and children: Riley (age 22), Riley's wife Eva (age 17), Nellie (age 20), Mary (age 18), Addie (age 15), Oliver (age 13), Elmer Edward (age 11), Daniel (age 8), Edna (age 6), and Minnie Edith (age 3). Elmer worked as a laborer doing odd jobs and Riley worked on a gas pipeline.

New Job
In 1938, Elmer began working as custodian at Crowell Grade School. He worked there for 20 years.

1940 Census
In 1940, Elmer (reported age 51), lived in Crowell, Foard County, TX with his wife Mentie (age 51) and children: Addie (age 25), Edward (age 21), Daniel (age 18), Edna (age 16), and Edith (age 13). Elmer worked as a janitor at the public school, a job that he held until he retired.

In about 1941, Elmer's son Daniel brought home a radio from Maine. The Brisco's were one of the first families in Crowell to have a radio. Every Saturday night, friends and neighbors would gather to listen to the Arthur Godfrey variety show and The Inner Sanctum. The Brisco's were later one of the first families in Crowell to get a TV.

1942 WW2 Draft
On May 20, 1942, Elmer registered for the "Old Man's" Draft. He was described as 5'9" tall with blue eyes, gray hair, and a ruddy complexion.

1950 Census
On April 1, 1950, Elmer Brisco (age 69) lived at 522 Logan St., Crowell, Foard County, TX with his wife Mentie (age 61), son Oliver (age 34), and grandson Don (age 15). Elmer worked as a high school janitor and Oliver worked as a section hand on the railroad.

50th Anniversary
On January 7, 1957, Elmer and Mentie celebrated 50 years of marriage!

Retirement
After working for 20 years as the custodian at Crowell Grade School, Elmer retired in 1958. He and his wife then moved to Vernon, Wilbarger County, TX.

Brisco Family Reunions:
In 1972 and 1973, Elmer was the oldest person to attend the Brisco Family Reunion in Jacksboro, TX. He was in his early 90s at the time.

Death
Elmer died, age 93, on August 6, 1975, of acute myocardial infarction. He had lived in Woods Nursing Home in Vernon, Wilbarger County, TX for 17 years. He was buried at Crowell Cemetery in Crowell, Foard County, TX.
