MEMPHIS — Mary Nell Davis Diggs, 93, of Memphis died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ in Memphis with Minister Mark Lance officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peppers Family Funeral Home of Memphis.

Mary was born June 13, 1921, in Newlin, to Thurston Elmo Davis and Sudie Mae Davis. She attended Newlin Elementary School through the eighth grade, and then graduated from Estelline High School.

Mary married James W. “Bill” Diggs Jr. on April 10, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1974. They lived in the Newlin area until moving to Estelline in 1961. During this time, Mary worked at Burlington Industries for 15 years and was the beloved janitor at Estelline School for eight years. The students and faculty dedicated their yearbook to her in appreciation for her service and her warm friendship. After her retirement, she loved to walk all over town and just visit, often taking a bag of homemade candy to share with a lucky friend. In 2003, she moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wyman and Trilton Davis; and two sisters, Bonnie Tuggles and Wanda Coldiron.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Diggs of Apple Valley Calif., and Steven Diggs and wife, Pati of Amarillo; a daughter, Barbara Donahoo and husband, Jerry of Bluffton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
