Obituary for Mazie S. Ladner
(circa 1928 ~ August 15, 2014)

Mazie Spiers Ladner, 86, resident of the Dedeaux Community, peacefully left this world for her eternal Home, Friday, August 15, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her eternal love, husband of 64 years, Clifton J. Ladner; parents, Pearline Spiers Ladner, Acy Spiers, and her step-father, Vertis Ladner; sons, Clifton J. Ladner, Jr., Donald W. Ladner, Roger D. Ladner.

Mazie is survived by sons, Wendell (Donna) Ladner, Louie Ladner, Ray (Gay) Ladner, Bennie (Cheryl) Ladner, Cedric (Shawn) Ladner, and Neal (Anne) Ladner; daughters, Judy (Edwin) Ladner, Sherrell (Charlie) Johnson, and Freda (Desmond) Hoda; 32 Grandchildren, 42 Great-Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Mazie was an only child and met and married her high school sweetheart, Clifton. She spent her entire life devoted to raising her family and to her Faith. She chose to have a large family; she was a mother who was constant in her love, guidance and example. Her Grandchildren also felt her never-ending love. Her home was always open and everyone felt welcomed by her. She was a Mother to all.

Mazie loved cooking and bringing the family together. Sunday dinner was a tradition, and everyone was always welcome. No invitation was needed, just show up after church and enjoy a wonderful meal with family. She was notorious for her delicious seafood gumbo, and no one will ever forget her coconut cakes, just to name a few. Her favorite family gathering was Christmas Eve; it was the one day of the year when the entire family gathered at her home to celebrate. What great gatherings these were with the immediate family numbering over 100. These celebrations were some of the most joyous times in her life.

She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and quilting. Over the years she made many special quilts for everyone in the family. Mazie's children will cherish their quilts, as will the later generations for the ones they received to welcome their new babies. Mazie also made quilts for many friends of the family who will cherish the love that was put into each stitch.

Mazie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dedeaux. She loved her community, and she was loyal, serving, and Faithful. She was a member of the Altar Society, Sacred Heart Chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was one of the first Ladies of Sacred Heart Parish to attend a Cursillo, and worked the Cursillo Teams when the movement started in the Dedeaux Community.

Mazie was a Beautiful, kind, loving lady, and always had a pleasant smile that will be missed by many. She leaves a legacy of Love, Family, and Faith.
