His father nor mother's names are not known to me.

The story goes that he was an only child. His father supposedly had died prior to coming to Louisiana, possibly in Georgia during war time. He and his mother were crossing Caddo Lake in Louisiana in a wagon when a storm came up. The wagon came unlashed due to the storm. He survived by clinging to a tree. He was rescued by a man from the Shreveport/Oil City or possibly Moringsport area. He was raised by him and his family. Unable to find him the census records during this time.

He married Nancy Ellen Young before 1890. Children of this union are Retha Gertrude, my Grandmother, Henry C., Virgil Harrison, Nellie M., Jessie C. and Lillie J. Daily.

John Henry and Nancy Ellen Young Daily also raised a nephew, Ranzy Carl Hartzo, who was the son of Nancy's sister, Sarah Frances Young Hartzo and Andrew Scroggins Hartzo.
