Dr. Carter was united in marriage at Cape Foulweather in 1874, with Olive E. Barker, who was born in Polk county, Ore., January 12, 1856, and her father, Jacob Barker, was a pioneer of that county, having settled there as early as 1852, upon a donation claim. He died at Philomath.
Two children have blessed their union. The eldest of these, Irma DeEtte, is postmistress of Yaquina, Ore.; and Lora Beatrice, the younger, is a student in Philomath College, at Philomath, Ore.

[Olives parents were married in Appanoose County, Iowa, on 24 Mar 1853. Jacob and his wife, Rebecca C., left for the Oregon Territory right after their marriage and arrived in Oregon on 28 Sept 1853. They found a farm site, built their first house and secured their claim on 16 May 1855, in Polk County, Oregon. An affidavit as to the death of Jacob, on 27 Jan 1859, at Philomath, was turned over to Federal Land Office in Oregon City. ODLC No. 4994.]
