Marie Del Commune McCann died peacefully at her home in Murphysboro surrounded by loved ones on January 2, 2002.
Marie was born Nov. 10, 1912, to Charles Louis Del Commune and Louise Du Pont Del Commune in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.
She earned a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Mathematics from Webster University in St. Louis and a Master's Degree with a major in French from the University of Iowa. Marie influenced those around her as an educator, mutual fund salesperson, social worker, and community volunteer. She completed her teaching career at Trico School District.
Marie married James Martin McCann of Murphysboro in 1946. Marie and Jim took great pride in the academic accomplishments of their five sons who each earned degrees in education or law.
Her husband, her brother, Carol I. Del Commune, and her sister, Louise C. Del Commune, preceded her in death.
Her five sons, Charles D., James M., Maurice J., Robert L., Patrick M., and their families survive her.
Visitation was held in the Church of Ste. Genevieve on Sat., Jan. 5.
Memorials may be made to Valle Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve or St. Andrew's Catholic School in Murphysboro.
