D. A. WILEY KILLED IN JUNCTION CITY BY DRUNK MAN ON SAT.

D. A. (Nick) Wiley, formerly of Winnsboro, was killed in Junction City, La.,
on last Saturday by Taylor Cullen of that place.
Mr. Wiley, who was city marshal of Junction City, attempted to quiet Cullen
who was disturbing the townspeople by agitating brawls, as he was drunk. Mr. Wiley
walked into a barn where Cullen was, thinking that he would have no trouble with
the man when Cullen opened fire upon the marshall, killing him instantly as five
bullets entered his body, and, according to authentic reports, striking him several
blows in the face with the butt-end of a revolver after the officer had fallen.
Cullen was placed in the city jail, but was removed soon afterwards as the sentiment
of the people began to run high.
The body of Mr. Wiley was brought to Winnsboro for burial on last Sunday, interment
being made in the Winnsboro cemetery on Monday. Rev. Carter, the Baptist pastor of
Junction City, in conjunction with Rev. W. S. Henry of the local Methodist church officiated.
Mr. Wiley is survived by his two small children, one brother, Stewart Wiley, of
Winnsboro, and a host of friends and relatives.

The son of Wesley Harrison Wylie and Sarah Brimfield; husband of Cornelia Nelson.
