Alphonse came to Minnesota in 1870 to help on the Bost farm. Theodore soon left for Switzerland hoping to get medical help, leaving Sophie and her brother to maintain the farm. He left the farm soon after Theodore returned to Minnesota. Later he and his nephew (also Alphonse) ran a nursery in Excelsior. Alphonse eventually rejoined the Bost family in Pomona California where he died.
