Last will and testament of Peter Bortman.
In the name of God, Amen. I, Peter Bortman, being of sound mind and understanding, do make this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say, 1st, to commend my soul to God, my creator, and as to my property I wish to dispose of it as follows. First, to order that all my just debts, funeral expenses, and the cost of proving this, my will, be fully paid, and $100 for masses for the repose of my soul. I also direct that $100 be paid to the Loretto Church. I give and bequeath my house at Portage Station to my son, Joseph Bordman (sic). I give and bequeath $50 to the children of my son Simon Boardman (sic) to be used for their especial benefit for clothing and other necessaries. I give and bequeath the sum of $100 for a Catholic Church, if one should be built at the place now called Max's Mills, within 10 years after my death. If not, then the sum of $100 is to be paid to the church in Carrolltown for the benefit of their prayers. And further I direct that the remainder of my ready money, notes, judgements, etc., and the proceeds of the sale of my personal property to be divided equally between my six children, namely Elizabeth, Joseph, Mary, Catherine, Simon, and Michael. And lastly, I nominate my esteemed friend, Paul Yahner, to be the executor of this my will, hereby revoking any and all other wills by me at any time heretofore made.

In witness whereof I have, to this my will, set my hand and seal this 10th day of October A.D. 1888.
